Setting the Table & Hosting

Hello. I am Claire Bennett. I am eleven, and I teach Junior Academy. Mrs. Hale is our headmistress, but this hour is mine. This is week 22. Today's lesson is Setting the Table & Hosting. Sit with me and we will learn it together. Meg is learning the geography of a place setting because a table should not be a puzzle when people are hungry. Fork on the left. Knife and spoon on the right, knife blade toward the plate. Glass above the knife. Napkin where a hand can find it. Formal tables add more pieces in the order you use them — outside in. None of this matters more than love at the table. A potluck is hospitality as a team sport: you bring what you said, on time, labeled, with a serving spoon. We set tables to honor people. We do not shame a family that uses matching mugs and joy.
