Relationships & Marriage Preparation
Hello. I am Claire Bennett. I am eleven, and I teach Junior Academy. Mrs. Hale is our headmistress, but this hour is mine. This is week 29. Today's lesson is Relationships & Marriage Preparation. Sit with me and we will learn it together. Adelaide is sitting with a budget page because marriage is not only a feeling. It is character, shared faith and values, money, children, work, a household, and daily kindness. Attraction is real. It is a poor architect. Ask: Does this person tell the truth? Honor parents and friends? Handle money without secrecy? Speak to waiters with respect? Keep a no? Scripture says there is no fear in love — fear that tormenteth is not a sign you should try harder. We honor marriage and motherhood as possible callings. We prepare you as if you may marry, and as if you may not. Either way you will need discernment. Hear this without a soft edge: a wedding ring does not require you to tolerate violence, abuse, sexual coercion, financial abuse, threats, degradation, isolation, stalking, or controlling behavior. Premarital counseling is wisdom, not a lack of romance. Consent is required in courtship and in marriage. Fidelity is a promise, not a mood.
