Child Development & Caregiving
Hello. I am Claire Bennett. I am eleven, and I teach Junior Academy. Mrs. Hale is our headmistress, but this hour is mine. This is week 30. Today's lesson is Child Development & Caregiving. Sit with me and we will learn it together. Jesus was much displeased when adults treated children as interruptions. A child is not a doll and not a nuisance. Caregiving is a skill: you watch the water, you know what a two-year-old can reach, you feed what will not choke, you speak so as not to crush. Development has patterns — babies need faces and milk and sleep; toddlers need safe no's; school-age children need play and truth. Positive discipline trains; it does not humiliate. Parenting, if that is your future calling, is not a surprise hobby. It needs money, a second adult who actually parents, a church, and a nervous system that can ask for help. If you ever see a child being harmed — hit to injure, starved of care, spoken to as if worthless, touched in a sexual way, or living in dangerous neglect — you tell a trusted adult or the authorities. You do not keep that secret to protect an adult's reputation.
